Distribution

Re:Sound ensures the artists and record labels who create recorded music are fairly compensated. In 2017, we moved from 28-day radio log reporting to 365-day, resulting in a higher volume of data that leads to greater accuracy in our distributions. We also worked closely with industry organisations like CONNECT Music Licensing and Bell Media to implement 100% compliance on ISRC (International Standard Recording Code) data.

Overview

In 2017, Re:Sound's distributable revenues were $45.9M, and we processed 9.7M claims by rights holders.

Q: In addition to collecting in Canada, Re:Sound has international partnerships in place that ensure that Canadian creators are compensated when their music is played around the world. Why do you think this is important?

A: Because the world is vast and I can barely keep my emails straight. It's a validating feeling when your music begins to make its way to places you haven't been yet. It didn't get there by accident. There's always some cost to getting it there. Receiving payment helps get more of [your music] into the world. That's important for art.
